Pine Mountain Boys Academy is a year-round, faith-based program for boys ages 13-17, who are struggling with anger, defiance, minor substance abuse, or other destructive choices. The program enrolls boys who have life-controlling issues or have gotten off track in life.
Pine Mountain Academy is a program that provides life transformation for boys struggling with unhealthy behaviors, addictions, or attitudes. Through this program’s therapies and teachings, boys are shown how to reach their God-given potential. The ultimate aim here is to see boys transition back to their families, ready to live a healthy and productive life through the power of God.
The campus of Pine Mountain is located on the site of a former church. This 36 acre property was given to Teen Challenge with the aim of helping drug and alcohol addicted teens. Since that time, this program has expanded to helping boys with all manner of behavioral issues, and Pine Mountain Boys Academy was born.
Staff at Pine Mountain demonstrate Christian principles through their actions. This sort of example-driven mentorship and role modeling is the most effective way to faith for most of these troubled boys. They will also attend chapel on campus, receiving training in Biblical studies. In addition, they will be able to attend a local church, which has a strong relationship with Prayer Mountain. Boys and staff attend service on Sundays and Wednesdays and even take part in missions.
When troubled teens begin to surround themselves with unhealthy influences, it creates an environment that supports their destructive behavior. Pine Mountain Academy does away with that through positive peer culture. This means that an environment is provided where making healthy choices is encouraged and accepted. Peers will now push them towards accountability, honesty, and spiritual development. The structure of the program as a whole also rewards teamwork and accountability.
As boys advance in the program, they gain access to further privileges. Rather than punishing negative behaviors, it is shown that rewarding them for their progress is much more effective. As boys get promoted through the three levels of the program, staff look for signs of growth in the areas of attitude, character, and personal conduct. With these privileges come responsibilities, which prepares boys for how the real world works, and sets them up with leadership skills.
Spiritual Direction and Growth
Our staff are all committed believers in Jesus Christ who model positive choices and the Christian life for the young men, providing mentorship and strong role models. Boys attend chapel services on campus, where they receive Biblical teaching on practical issues. We have a strongly supportive relationship with a local church, which supports the work and ministry of Pine Mountain and also provides a church home. Boys and staff attend services on Sundays and Wednesdays and participate in missions projects. Boys also work through the Teen Challenge discipleship curriculum as part of the program requirements.
Positive Environment
Positive Peer culture means an environment where making right choices is accepted and encouraged. Boys who have been “following the wrong crowd” into destructive behaviors instead find themselves pushed by their peers toward responsibility, integrity and growth. We reward positive choices. Our campus promotes teamwork and accountability among students as well.
As they progress through the program, boys advance through three levels that govern privileges and indicate progress. To promote a boy to the next level, our staff look for evidence of personal growth in matters of attitude, character and personal conduct. The third and highest level carries with it expectations of and training in leadership skills.
Family Restoration
We desire to see families healed and restored. We invite parents to visit with their son on campus once each month. These family days give families time to restore relationships within the supportive environment on campus. Parents also have the opportunity to spend time with other parents and with our staff and to receive Godly counsel.
