Private schools in Arizona do not require Accreditation, Registration, Licensing or Approval from the state. A private school is defined as “a nonpublic institution, other than the child’s home, where academic instruction is provided for at least the same number of days and hours each year as a public school.” The laws of Arizona go on further to say “Nothing in this title shall be construed to provide the state board of education or the governing boards of school districts control or supervision over private schools.”
Although a teaching certificate is not required to teach at a private school, students are required to be provided instruction in the subjects of reading, grammar, mathematics, social studies and science.”
Private schools must adhere to the safety programs and drills set out by the fire marshal as well as follow safety standards regarding educational activities. Arizona places criminal penalties on people selling drugs within the school zone and school personnel are responsible for placing signs and other indicators that the facility is a drug-free zone.
